Amazon FBA Fees Increasing everything you should know about – 2022
We have seen that Amazon reportedly always made annual fee adjustments in January. The reason why Amazon pushed back its increases from January 2021 to June 2021 was due to the effects of the pandemic. And in 2022, Amazon scheduled its fee increase in January, hitting sellers with a second fee hike in an eight-month duration.
Amazon fee increases has hit its sellers right on schedule this year and, if we look at the graph, Amazon fees 2022 will show major increases in comparison to previous years of Amazon marketplace charges. Amazon shared that in the upcoming changes, the first hike of Amazon Seller Fees will start with Amazon’s FBA fulfilment fee changes which was effected from January 18, 2022.
What are the new Amazon Fee 2022 Changes?
As an Amazon Seller you might find this shocking but, you’ll be paying more than double for some of the Amazon seller fees in 2022.
This rise in the cost of selling on Amazon fees will involve everything for say storage fees, new aged inventory parameters for surcharges, and changes, fulfilment and referral fees also.
In all of the 5 mentioned categories we will see Amazon seller fees changes of the year 2022:
- Fulfilment Fees
- Small & Light Fees
- Referral Fees
- Storage Fees + Aged Inventory Surcharge
- Removal & Disposal Fees
1. AMAZON FBA FULFILLMENT FEES 2022
We have expected the increases to be anywhere in between the range from 2% to 12% – with the biggest increases hitting the categories of oversize tier. While each of the small standard category will be affected with an increase of 8%.

2. MONTHLY AMAZON STORAGE FEE CHANGES
Started from February 1, 2022 there is an increase in off-peak monthly inventory storage fees that is from January-September.
- $0.08 per cubic foot for standard-size products
- $0.05 per cubic foot for oversize products
AMAZON AGED INVENTORY SURCHARGE
Amazon has introduced a new Aged Inventory Surcharge in 2022 for units in fulfilment centres for considerably 271 to 365 days.
In the past year changes, there were no additional storage fees for up to 365 days for any item in storage. However, Amazon starting from this year will now add a $1.50 per cubic foot charge along with the storage fees mentioned above.
This brings us to the conclusion that you’ll need to evaluate SKUs that sits tight for long periods of time and calculate how that will cost you in the upcoming years to make effective decisions about storage of those units.
This new aged inventory surcharge will be in effect from May 15, 2022, for units that have been stored in fulfilment centres for 271 to 365 days.
3. AMAZON FBA REMOVAL & DISPOSAL FEES
At length, Amazon is more than doubling the Removal or Disposal Order Fee for most SKUs. It will be more expensive from now on for missing on a new product, or getting undercut and outcompeted. If you keep struggling to sell a product, you’ll face the early kick-in to long-term storage fees as elaborated above. You’ll have to pay much more per unit if you decide to cut the product.
In fact, Removal or Disposal Order Fee will be seen more than double every product size except for the smallest. A SKU between 1-2 lbs, for example, will rise from $0.35 to $0.75 per unit – that is calculated as a 114% jump.
4. AMAZON SMALL & LIGHT FEES
Amazon will execute the below briefed changes to the FBA Small and Light program:
- There will be an increase in the weight limit for FBA Small and Light from 12 oz to 3 lb.
- Amazon will use the greater of unit weight or dimensional weight to determine the shipping weight for all large standard-size units. And for Small standard-size units it will use the unit weight.
If not specified, Amazon will continue to charge all other fees (examples include storage fees, removal, and disposal fees) as core FBA.
5. AMAZON REFERRAL FEES CHANGES
In 2022, apparently we have marked a noticeable decrease in the charge for Amazon referral fees over Amazon Marketplace.
When you make a sale, referral fees- evaluated on the basis of the sales price of the item, including shipping or gift wrap charges is charged by Amazon.
Starting from January 18, 2022, Amazon has reduced the referral fee from 15% to 8% for products with a total sales price greater than $500 as well as it is decreased for lawn mowers and snow throwers.
